Will Kay
Dr Will Kay is a Lecturer in Biostatistics at the School of Biosciences, Cardiff University. He has been a member of academic staff since 2021, and is the lead of the Biological Sciences BSc degree scheme.
Biological: Will’s biological research interests lie in quantifying the drivers of individual- and population-level animal movement, behaviour, and energetics to predict the impact of anthropogenic disturbance and environmental change on animals. In particular, he has always been fascinated by marine megafauna. Will is interested in the development of new tools and methods to study this, and deriving recommendations for policy and conservation management.
Pedagogic: Will’s main area of focus in terms of pedagogic scholarship and research is on the concept of "Statistics Anxiety", and mitigating and combatting this in students. More broadly, Will is interested in what makes for an effective learning environment for learning statistics, including determining the effectiveness of statistics support through drop-in clinics. He is also interested in how to build a sense of community among students and staff.
Will is a a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA).
